Opening Hours

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
Closed on Mondays.

Closed on the following days: Good Friday, 1 May, 24, 25 and 31 December, 1 January.

Special openings: on public holidays that fall on a Monday, such as Easter Monday and Whit Monday as well as Ascension Day, German Unity Day (3 October), Reformation Day (31 October) and Boxing Day (26 December).

Special opening hours on 12 and 13 September

Due to the ‘Oldenburg Night of Museums’, the Horst Janssen Museum will have amended opening hours on 12 and 13 September.

On Saturday 12 September 2026, the museum will be closed during the day. It will not open until 6 pm for the ‘Oldenburg Night of Museums’.

On Sunday 13 September 2026, the museum will not open until 12 noon. However, the Sunday guided tour at 11 am will go ahead as planned.

* Concessionary admission:
Pupils aged 18 and over, students, apprentices, participants in the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ), participants in the Federal Voluntary Service (BFD), holders of the Oldenburg Pass, recipients of SGB II or SGB XII benefits, recipients of housing benefit supplements, recipients of child supplements, recipients of benefits under Sections 2/3 of the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, severely disabled persons, holders of the Oldenburg Volunteer Pass, visitors with city tour tickets

Prices for guided tours:
60-minute public guided tour: €4 plus admission, concessionary price for under-18s: €3
Booked group tour: €50 per hour plus admission
Foreign-language group tour: €55 per hour plus admission

Free admission:
Companions of severely disabled persons (category B) who require assistance, members of the press, staff of all museums and art galleries in Oldenburg, holders of an ICOM Card, members of the German Museum Association and the Lower Saxony-Bremen Museum Association, members of the Federal Association for Museum Education (Bundesverband Museumspädagogik e.V.), members of the support associations and friends’ groups of the City Museum, the Horst Janssen Museum and the House of Media Art, as well as members of the cooperating friends’ and support associations of the cities of Emden, Bremen and Groningen, certified tour guides, and participants in MUSEALOG

On the first Sunday of the month, admission and guided tours are free for everyone.

Cooperation with Kulturtafel Oldenburg
