Images per second

Drawing in motion

27 June to 12 October 2025

The fusion of drawing and the moving image is closely interwoven with the invention of film and has lost none of its fascination to this day. Animations have the power to create worlds in which the imaginable and even the unimaginable become possible and come to life. With the group exhibition ‘Images per Second’, artist and film curator Aline Helmcke presents a selection of international artists' positions that explore the relationship between drawing, time and movement.

Some of the works leave the screen, play with space and time and invite the viewer to interact. Some are meticulously created image by image, while others deliberately emphasise spontaneity and sketchiness. The works on display range from conceptual to performative, from analogue to digital, from associative to narrative. All the works have one thing in common: they are current positions with an individual signature that move beyond the expected and thus provide a lively insight into the creative potential of animated drawing.
